Admission offers are now available at University of Ibadan (UI) through its Distance Learning Centre (DLC) to support candidates who either did not sit for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) or scored below the cut-off mark of 200.

This initiative was highlighted by the Director of the DLC, Prof. Babatunde Omobowale, during an interaction with the press in Ibadan.

Flexible and Affordable Education

Prof. Omobowale emphasised the flexibility and accessibility of the open distance e-learning (ODeL) mode offered by UI, which will be officially open on September 2.

He stated that the ODeL mode provides a seamless blended learning experience, allowing learners to join live lectures in real-time from anywhere—home, office, or on the go.

“UI is committed to making quality education accessible to all. UI ODeL is very affordable and has flexible payment schemes, with students paying only N50,000 to register and partake in all course activities while paying the balance before the exams,” said Prof. Omobowale.

Wide Range of Programmes

The UI DLC offers a variety of undergraduate programmes in ODeL mode, including:

  • BSc Computer Science
  • BSc Economics
  • BSc Sociology
  • BSc Psychology
  • BSc Political Science
  • BA Communications and Language Arts
  • Bachelor of Social Work
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science

Opportunities for Transfer Students

UI also welcomes inter-university transfers into its ODeL programmes.

Prof. Omobowale mentioned that students from other universities, both private and public, can transfer to UI’s ODeL programmes by forwarding a letter of interest and their current transcripts in National Universities Commission (NUC)-accredited programmes.

“Those who scored below 200 in JAMB UTME or did not sit for the UTME can also take advantage of this opportunity, and enrol in any of the university undergraduate programmes in ODeL mode,” Prof. Omobowale added.

Conclusion

The University of Ibadan’s DLC initiative offers a credible alternative for candidates with low UTME scores, providing a flexible, affordable, and high-quality education option that broadens access to university education.
