Kashim Imam, the Chairman, Board of Trustees, Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) on Thursday said the fund had spent N8 billion on the execution of various projects at tertiary institutions in Yobe.
Imam made this known in Damaturu during a courtesy visit to Governor Mai Mala-Buni of Yobe.
He listed the institutions to include Yobe State University, Damaturu, Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Federal College of Education, Technical, Potiskum, and Federal University Gashua.
The chairman assured Mala-Buni that the fund would continue to develop the infrastructure of the institutions for improved service delivery.
Imam announced the donation of N10 million to the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) toward the successful conduct of the ongoing membership registration and validation of the party.
He, however, said the donation was from his personal savings and not from the coffers of the fund.
Responding, Mala-Buni commended the fund for playing an instrumental role in the educational development of the state, and pleaded with it to support the State Polytechnic, Geidam, which was partly destroyed by insurgents.
He noted that TETFUND’s projects and programs were in line with the state’s post insurgency recovery initiative.
“Part of the initiative was my declaration of a state of emergency in education shortly after I was sworn as governor.
“We are building more primary and secondary schools and additional teachers would be employed with adequate instructional materials provided.
“This administration would strive to ensure prompt payment of counterpart funds to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), to enable the state access grants to improve primary education,” he said.
