A non-governmental organisation, Sokoto State Development Association (SOSDA), has written to the National Examination Council (NECO), seeking for clarification on why the results of State indigenous students who sat for the 2019/2020 examination have not been released.
In a letter addressed to NECO Registrar, the association requested from the examination body to furnish it with reasons why the result is yet to be released after almost a year since the examinations were concluded.
The letter was signed by the chairman and Secretary of the Association, Hon. Malami Mohammed Galadanci and Dr. Abubakar Alkali respectively.
The group noted that candidates from other states who sat for the same examination in the 2019/2020 session has been released.
“The withholding of the NECO results for indigenes of Sokoto state has caused serious concern amongst the candidates who are not able to take the next steps in their educational career.
“Parents of the affected candidate have also expressed disappointment over this unfortunate fallout which has affected the educational pursuits of their wards.” The letter read in part.
The group also sought to find out whether the inability of the candidates to collect their result follows the failure of Sokoto State Government to pay the examination fees and if a third party can intervene with regards to the payment.
Similarly, the letter requested for the number of the affected candidates from Sokoto state who sat for the examination in the 2019/2020 session.
It assured NECO of its readiness to assist where necessary towards the release of results for the affected candidates from Sokoto state to enable them further their education.
It also called on all stakeholders to lend their voices with a view to getting the result for Sokoto state indigenes held by NECO released.
SOSDA, however, enjoined the Sokoto state government to take the necessary steps towards ensuring that the results are released.
“This is more so when juxtaposed with the fact that the Sokoto state government has consistently claimed that education is its top priority,” it added.
