Gombe State Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has inaugurated a new governing council for Gombe State University (GSU) and boards for the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gombe and College for Health Sciences and Technology, Kaltungo.

The immediate past senator that represented Gombe South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Senator Joshua Lidani, is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the GSU Governing Council while Alhaji Sa’idu Mohammed Abubakar and Alhaji Ahmed Sallau Pindiga were inaugurated as board chairmen of the two colleges respectively.

Speaking, Governor Yahaya said individuals of impeccable character and track record were chosen into the council and boards, to ensure that the institutions achieve their statutory objectives.

He stated that the enormous responsibilities require efficient mobilisation and application of resources, considering the prevailing economic condition caused by the COVID-19 which calls for prudence and accountability.

“The boards should therefore help their institutions ensure accountability and compliance with best practices.

“They should also help their institutions create innovative ways to generate revenue and reduce their financial dependence on the government,” he said.

The governor also urged them to bring their wealth of experience and unique expertise towards the development of the institutions.
