The management of Sa’adu Zungur University has officially banned the sale of handouts to students by staff members, marking a significant move to uphold academic integrity and ensure a fair learning environment.
According to a memo released from the Office of the Registrar, the practice of selling handouts is against university regulations.
The memo, signed by Assistant Registrar (Establishments) Sani Mato, emphasised that any staff member found engaging in this practice will face strict disciplinary action in line with the university’s rules.
Handouts, often consisting of unpublished printed or handwritten materials related to specific course content, have been sold by lecturers to students.
This practice sometimes involves coercive measures, where students are either promised certain marks or threatened with failure if they do not purchase the handouts.
“The sale of handouts undermines the principles of fairness and equity in our academic system,” stated Sani Mato in the memo.
“Effective immediately, the sale of handouts is prohibited, and all staff members are expected to comply with this directive to maintain the integrity of our educational standards.”
This decision aims to create a more equitable academic environment and to eliminate any undue pressure on students to purchase additional materials.
By enforcing this ban, the university seeks to ensure that all students have equal access to educational resources without financial coercion.
The university’s management is committed to upholding academic standards and ensuring that all students receive a fair and unbiased education.
This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the quality of education and maintain the credibility of the institution.
Faculty and staff are urged to adhere strictly to this directive, and students are encouraged to report any violations to the university administration to ensure compliance and maintain the high standards expected at Sa’adu Zungur University.
