A recent graduate from the Department of Quantity Surveying at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Ifunanya Miracle, also known as Bliss, tragically lost her life during a botched prank that turned into an attempted robbery on campus in Awka, Anambra State.

Her friend, Peace, a student in the Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry, was injured and is receiving treatment at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital.

On the evening of June 9, 2024, Ifunanya and Peace were in a tricycle when a fellow passenger attempted to rob them.

In a desperate bid to escape, they jumped from the moving vehicle. Ifunanya hit her head on the ground and died from her injuries, while Peace sustained less severe injuries.

A fellow student revealed that the alleged robber later claimed it was a prank gone wrong. This person reportedly surrendered to the police, insisting that the intent was to prank, not to rob.

Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, the university’s spokesperson, confirmed the incident, describing it as a tragic prank. He stated that the prankster, a final-year student, would face disciplinary action after the funeral arrangements for Ifunanya were completed.

The families of the victims and the prankster have met with the university administration, reaching an agreement for the prankster’s family to cover funeral costs and medical expenses.
