Plumber steals student’s phone inside lecture room

The Police in Osun on Monday arraigned one Kazeem Alade, 24, in Ile-Ife for allegedly stealing a phone belonging to a student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence on September 21, 2021, about 8 am, on the university premises.

Osanyintuyi said that the defendant allegedly entered the university’s Health Science Lecture Theatre with an intent to commit felony.

He alleged that the defendant stole one Infinix Smart 5 phone, valued at N45,000, property of one Adekunle Gloria.

He said the offence contravened sections 383, 390(9) and 412 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The defence counsel, Mr Philip Fasanmoye urged the court to grant his client bail and promised that his client would not jump bail.

Magistrate A. I. Oyebadejo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sums.

Oyebadejo said that the sureties must swear to affidavit of means and they must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She ordered that the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the prosecutor.

She also ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed, as well as produce three of their recent passport photographs each.

Oyebadejo adjourned the case until Oct. 13, for hearing.
