The pictures below are of Danfodiyo Hall of Residence at the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. The toilets of the hostels were recently renovated by the school’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) as its project for the 2018/2019 academic session.

But the sight of it leaves much to be desired. It explains why you should not judge a book by its cover.

Outside the building, a visitor would be welcomed with the sight of newly painted walls.

But the beauty outside contrasts the ugliness inside the newly renovated lavatory, irrespective of the painting.

Portions of the toilet sets have broken just as roof top has.

The tap in the hostel meant to supply water for sanitary purposes stopped working long ago.

This is as the toilet stinks on a regular day of use.

Aside the recently commissioned hostel blocks donated by Aliko Dangote Foundation to the ABU, the university had not built a new hostel in about forty-five years now.

The Danfodiyo hostel like some others on the campuses of the university are currently in a deplorable state.

ABU SRC President, Usman Waziri explained to EduCeleb.com that what his leadership did was what it could afford to do regarding the poor state of the toilet facilities. He also dispelled rumours in some quarters that the work cost the student leadership some millions.

He was however silent about the cost of the project considering available funds believed to be worth more than was used in the project execution.

In his words, “The renovation is my personal commitment, not that of the management. So, there’s no any millions allocated for that. And that was done to the best of my ability and that’s what my pocket can afford.”

“I deemed that the renovation is necessary considering that situation of the sanitary facility.”
