Osun govt alleges sabotage as private schools defy lockdown

The Osun State government has alleged sabotage as some private schools have allegedly deployed various guises to resume school in defiance of the lockdown instituted by government.

It said such schools have been finding various means of neglecting the lockdown set aside to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

According to a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary in the Osun State Ministry of Education, Festus Olajide, the government observed that “some private schools have been using various guise to direct learners to resume learning in their schools.”

Mr Olajide believed that such efforts by these bodies “is a sabotage of the efforts of the State Government at fighting the spread of the corona virus pandemic in the State.”

He therefore promised that, “Any private school which reopens during this emergency period shall have its Operational License revoked with immediate effect; and it’s authorities shall be handed over to the State Government of Osun for prosecution as appropriate”.

Osun State has eight active cases of the virus that had reached almost all states in the country.

It has come to the notice of the State Government of Osun that Heads of some private schools have been using various guise to direct learners to resume learning in their schools.

  1. Such action is inimical to the health of the children and Public Health in general. Besides, such directive is a sabotage of the efforts of the State Government at fighting the spread of the corona virus pandemic in the State.
  2. It should be noted for emphasis that the partial lockdown as explained by the Governor does not cover reopening of schools. The ban on Educational gatherings remains in force.
  3. Any private school which reopens during this emergency period shall have its Operational License revoked with immediate effect; and it’s authorities shall be handed over to the State Government of Osun for prosecution as appropriate.
