Ogun State Government is conducting the year 2020 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), for Junior Secondary School( JSS 3) students, with the introduction of new answer sheets known as Optical Memory Recorder (OMR), to make the examination easier for the students and avoid examination malpractices.
Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu stated this during the monitoring of the examination to some schools in the State.
He noted that BECE marks the end of Junior Secondary education, while the result would be used to streamline students into various classes at the Senior Secondary Level, with the aid of the sheet.
Arigbabu added that the new initiative would inculcate values and raise morally upright individuals capable of independent thinking and appreciate the dignity of labour, saying, it would help develop patriotic young people, equipped to contribute to social development and performance of their Civic responsibilities.
“Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), marks the end of Junior Secondary School and the results will be used to streamline students into various classes at the Senior Secondary Level. It provides the students with diverse basic knowledge and skills for entrepreneurship and education advancement’’, he said.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mrs Abosede Ogunleye who described the exercise as a dynamic development in line with the current situation globally, said the aim was to further widen the horizon of the students to conform with the 21st-century system.
In their remarks, the Principals of Gateway Secondary School and St. Peter’s College both in Abeokuta, Mrs Atinuke Kusimo and Mrs Lilian Ogun respectively, affirmed that the examination was well organised, saying the OMR was neatly trimmed and well arranged, which has made the 2020 edition more preferable than previous ones.
Also in the Ijebu-Ode area, the Principal of Junior Secondary School, Ijebu Muslim College and Adeola Odutola College (Private), Alhaji Adegbaminiyi Salau and Mr Ebenezer Osunsan, while appreciating Prince Dapo Abiodun’s led-administration for the new initiative, submitted that it has solved a lot of challenges.
