Authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State, have expelled 10 students of the university and suspended 18 others for various offences committed by them.
The university, in a statement announcing the expulsion and suspension on Thursday, said the punishments ranged from two semesters suspension to outright expulsion, adding that they were suspended after they faced the disciplinary committee of the school.
“The general public is hereby notified that the students whose photographs and names appear below were found culpable of various offences which centred on the breach of their matriculation oath and were appropriately sanctioned by the university management,” the statement read in part.
Those suspended were two ladies who were accused of examination malpractice and alteration of marks and 26 men who were accused of offences ranging from belonging to an unlawful society, impersonation during the examination, examination malpractices and alteration of marks.
Eight of the students were suspended for belonging to unlawful societies, nine were suspended for examination malpractices, while 10 were expelled for the unlawful alteration of marks.
Two of the students were from Arts and Social Science Education, four are from the English department, two from Foreign Languages, two from Pharmacy, five from Computer Science and Engineering.
