NSSF commends Lagos govt on sports promotion

Nigeria Schools Sports Federation (NSSF) has commended the Lagos State Government for its tremendous role in promoting Sports through hospitality and adequate security for participants.

This was made known by the President, NSSF, Mallam Mohammed Ibrahim during a courtesy visit of the Federation on the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs Olutokunboh Adeleye as part of the activities lined up for the 21st Nestle Milo Championship in Lagos.

Mr Ibrahim, represented by the General Secretary, NSSF, South-West, Mr Olarotimi Okeleye, stated that the agency was saddled with the responsibility of Schools Sports with the aim of “Catching them young” and grooming students to become future champions.

While describing Sports as a biosocial phenomenon that brings different people together, Mallam Ibrahim disclosed that the NSSF had been in the Sporting business for over thirty years.

In her remarks, Mrs Adeleye commended the NSSF for the laudable programme as it would go a long way in developing the total well being of students in terms of psychomotor which is the essence of a balanced education.

”Education and Sports develops students’ instincts and strength. It brings to bear the totality of what education means, just as it serves as a veritable tool that takes children off social vices” She noted.

On the invitation to host the forthcoming National Schools festival, and the participation of the State in the Sports Festival, Mrs Adeleye assured the delegates of Ministry of Education’s readiness to interface with the State’s Ministry of Youths and Social Development on the possibilities.

In the same vein, Director, Co-curricular, Mrs Busola Agagu commended NSSF for deeming it fit to hold the Sports fiesta in Lagos, adding that the Co-curricular Department of the Ministry has always been involved in activities that would help develop the psychomotive aspects of students.

The NSSF National Secretary, Mrs Olabisi Joseph and staff of the Ministry were on hand to receive the delegates from Niger, Delta, Bauchi, Benue, Bayelsa, Oyo, Rivers, Adamawa, Cross River and the Federal Capital Territory.
