Niger education ministry institutes continuous schools visitation

The Hon. Commissioner, Niger State Ministry of Education, Hajiya Hannatu Jibrin Salihu has instituted a continuous school visitation across the state by officials of the ministry.

This is in furtherance of the ministry’s commitment to ensure consistent conducive atmosphere for effective teaching and learning especially during the ongoing Covid-19 and insecurity related school closure in parts of the state.

The Information Officer of the ministry, Mr. Jibrin Usman Kodo stated this in a statement issued and made available to the media over the weekend in Minna.

The statement added that the Hon. Commissioner, has commenced the exercise with a visit to Government Girls Secondary School, Old Airport road, Minna and Zarumai Model School, Minna, where she inspected classrooms with emphasis on the availability of teachers, conduct of academic and other related activities, including students behaviour, condition of school environment and compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Jibrin Kodo stated further that during her interaction with the school management, teachers and students, Hajiya Hannatu placed emphasis on ensuring that academic activities were not interrupted, just as she insisted that Principals should ensure that teachers were not only present but carry out their teaching as expected of them.

“She thereby directed the Principals to monitor and ensure students attendance and those teachers absent without genuine reasons should be queried for not being in their schools and classes at the appropriate time,” the statement quoted Hajiya Salisu Jibrin as saying.

She further reaffirmed to the school management that indiscipline and dereliction of duty on the part of the school operators, teachers and students shall not be tolerated, adding that Principals who fail in discharging their duties will be sanctioned.
