The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced the release of the 2024 National Common Entrance Examination (NCEE) results, facilitating admissions into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) of the Federal Unity Colleges.

This annual examination, overseen by the National Examinations Council (NECO), is a critical step for primary school students seeking entry into these prestigious institutions.

At a news conference held in Abuja on Tuesday, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Education, disclosed that out of the 71,291 registered candidates, 66,931 sat for the examination, while 4,360 were absent.

Notably, one candidate achieved the highest score of 203 out of a maximum 210, while 13 candidates scored the lowest mark of one.

Dr. Sununu also addressed instances of examination malpractice, revealing that an unprecedented number of 52 candidates were implicated, with two from Lagos State and 50 from Rivers State.

Regarding the examination for the Federal Government Academy (FGA), 2,649 candidates registered, with 2,336 taking the exam and 313 absent. The highest score in this category was 180, while the lowest was five.

The minister reiterated that the criteria for admission into the Federal Unity Colleges remain unchanged, with a distribution of 60% merit, 30% equality of state, and 10% exigency.

He emphasised the need for the Senior Secondary Education Department to ensure that all admission processes are concluded promptly and in accordance with these guidelines.

“Our Federal Unity Colleges have become the first port of call for most parents in the country,” Dr. Sununu stated.

He assured Nigerian parents that the government would continue to enhance infrastructural development, feeding, and teacher quality to ensure effective teaching and learning in these institutions.

The NCEE, a crucial selection examination into Nigeria’s federal secondary schools, commonly known as “unity schools,” was conducted on June 1, 2024, across Nigeria, as well as in Benin Republic and Togo.

The release of these results marks a significant milestone for thousands of young students and their families, as they prepare for the next step in their educational journey.
