Senior Special Assistant on Basic and Secondary Education to the Lagos State Governor, Eniola Opeyemi has proposed a fare slash for students and teachers who frequently use the ferry transport services to commute to and from school.

Opeyemi made the suggestion when he paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of Lagos State Ferry Services, LAGFERRY, Hon. Ladi Balogun.

The SSA explained that the slash in price would not only help reduce the financial burden on these individuals but will also encourage more students and teachers to take advantage of the transport services provided in discharging their duties.

“Aside the fact that the use of LAGFERRY guarantees safety for commuters, I believe that offering discounted fares for students and teachers in riverine areas is a gesture that can make a big impact.

“It has the potential to improve access to education for students living in remote areas, as well as support teachers who work hard to educate these students”, he noted.

Responding, Balogun, the LAGFERRY boss who is a former student leader, considered the proposal as salient to the drive of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Plus Agenda, which he said shall be given due consideration.

In the course of the visit, Opeyemi also met with the executive officers of the Medical Students of Lagos State University who were on a visit to the LAGFERRY MD.

“Our discussion displayed the beauty of comradeship and we all agree that Mr. Governor needs our collective support to see to fruition the smart city dream.
