Kwara govt, UNILORIN sympathise with family of slain student

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has condoled with the family of late Miss Omowumi Blessing Olajide who was raped and murdered by unknown assailants on Wednesday June 2, 2021.

The Governor AbdulRazaq described the incident as a “dastardly act” in a statement issued on Friday and signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaiye.

He called on security agencies in the state to do all within its powers to bring the perpetrators of the gruesome act to book.

Speaking with journalists in his office on Friday, the Director of Corporate Affairs of the University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun on behalf of the Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Age Abdulkareem, confirmed that Miss Olajide is indeed a student of the institution who had just concluded her 300 Level examination.

He condemned the act and also promised on behalf of the management to cooperate with security agencies in order to fish out the killers.

The Director who did not rule out the possibility of cultists involvement in the murder case.

He said, “Though the incident did not happen on the school campus, the institution holds the safety of their students wherever they are paramount”.

He called on students of the university to report any suspicious person on and off campus wherever they live.

Reacting, the victim’s aunt, Mrs Modupe Shittu, while speaking with reporters at the family house, described the late Miss Omowumi Olajide as a kind hearted person whom “you can leave your children with for a long time”.

She recalled the incident on the fateful day.

In her words, “she was the one who locked the gate after me that day when I returned in the evening, I met her dead body on the floor in the sitting room with her hands tied to the back she was half naked and there was blood on the floor and on the wall”.

Mrs Shittu said the Police has been helpful since she reported the incident to them and called on people who know the victim to help the security agencies in bringing the perpetrators to book.
