Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has proposed a N549.16 billion budget for Kano State’s 2025 fiscal year, emphasising education, which takes the most of it all.
Dubbed the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” the proposal allocates 57 percent for capital expenditure and 43 percent for recurrent expenses, a significant increase of N111.8 billion from the 2024 budget.
In his presentation to the state House of Assembly on Friday, Governor Yusuf announced that education would receive the highest allocation, amounting to 31 percent (N168.5 billion) of the budget.
This is followed by government institutions with 17 percent (N98.2 billion), health with 16 percent (N90 billion), and infrastructure development with 12 percent (N70.6 billion).
Additional allocations include 4 percent for security and emergency services (N23 billion), 3.8 percent for agriculture (N21 billion), 2.8 percent for environment and sanitation (N15.5 billion), and 2 percent for transportation (N12.8 billion).
Governor Yusuf pledged that the budget would support Kano’s economic growth and reduce dependency on grants.
“Our goal is to make Kano a state of high economic prosperity, fulfilling the collective dreams and aspirations of our people,” he stated.
The Speaker of the Assembly noted that, alongside the budget review, the House has enacted 11 amendment bills and over 200 motions this year, reflecting a commitment to legislative progress and governance improvements.
