The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed as false a report claiming that candidates sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cannot take the exam outside the state where they registered.
The Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Dr Fabian Benjamin, made the clarification on Wednesday in reaction to what he described as a misleading report by a news outlet.
“In a recent interview with a NAN reporter, I clarified that candidates are not restricted to taking the examination within their state of registration,” Benjamin said.
According to him, JAMB offers candidates the flexibility to register at any point across the country and to choose any town nationwide as their preferred examination location.
“Computer-Based Test Centres are clustered according to towns for convenience, allowing candidates to choose the town where they wish to take the examination. For example, if a candidate selects Garki as their examination town, they must take the exam there and not in a different town as alleged,” he explained.
Dr Benjamin emphasized that candidates can register in one state and choose to write the exam in another, citing a scenario where a candidate registers in Lagos but opts to sit for the UTME in Sokoto.
“This flexibility is designed to accommodate candidates’ preferences and ensure they can choose a location that is convenient for them,” he noted.
JAMB urged candidates and the general public to disregard the earlier report, reaffirming that the information was entirely inaccurate.
