The Federal Government has called on all education partners to align their projects with Nigeria’s national priorities to effectively tackle the country’s educational challenges.

Speaking during a strategic meeting with representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, emphasized the need for synergy in educational interventions to achieve measurable results.

“We must work together to fix our country’s educational system,” Dr. Alausa stated. “The era of working in isolation is gone. We need collaborative efforts to ensure our investments yield measurable results.”

Scaling Up Educational Interventions

Dr. Alausa acknowledged JICA’s contributions to Nigeria’s education sector but stressed the need for wider implementation. He proposed:

  • Collaboration with UBEC to establish at least one effective school in each of the 36 states.
  • Training teachers under the SMASE project in effective school locations to enhance learning outcomes.
  • A high-level meeting in April involving JICA, UBEC, and the Ministry of Education to develop a joint financing strategy for a nationwide rollout of key initiatives.

JICA’s Commitment to Nigerian Education

JICA’s Chief Representative, Mr. Yuzurio Susumu, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s education sector through:

  • Curriculum development
  • ICT integration in education
