The Vice-Chancellor of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education, Oyo State, Prof. Olanrewaju Ademola Olaniyan, has expressed his administration’s commitment to learning from the Lagos State University (LASU) model in a bid to position the newly established institution among Nigeria’s best.
Speaking on Monday, April 14, 2025, during a working visit by the LASU team led by Prof. M.O.B. Mohammed, Prof. Olaniyan said the university is eager to adopt LASU’s innovative practices, particularly its General Nigerian Studies (GNS) E-learning platform, which significantly reduces examination stress and improves efficiency for large student populations.
“Lagos State University is arguably the best state university in Nigeria,” Prof. Olaniyan said. “Their achievements are visible, and we are ready and willing to understudy and be mentored by them.”
He added that he holds LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, in high esteem and applauded her leadership in the Nigerian university system. He also pledged to push for the adoption of the GNS software at Emmanuel Alayande University through management approval processes, emphasizing that quality solutions are worth investing in.
The visiting LASU team demonstrated the benefits of their GNS platform, highlighting reduced costs, fewer personnel requirements, less strain on infrastructure, and improved efficiency in managing examinations for tens of thousands of students.
Prof. Mohammed, Director of LASU’s Centre for General Nigerian Studies, explained that the collaboration idea was birthed after he delivered a keynote address at Emmanuel Alayande University’s education conference. He praised the Oyo-based university for being open to innovation and reiterated LASU’s readiness to support their growth journey.
Following the engagement, the LASU delegation toured Emmanuel Alayande University’s ICT facilities and library, interacting with staff and assessing infrastructure to identify areas of improvement.
The second day of the visit featured an evaluation session led by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Olatunde Salawu, during which the LASU team presented findings and recommendations. Prof. Mohammed commended the university’s rapid progress in just two years and encouraged the staff to maintain a positive, innovative mindset.
Present at the sessions were top officials of Emmanuel Alayande University, including Registrar Mrs. Olubunmi Amoo; Director of GSP, Dr. Oluremi Akande; Director of Research, Dr. Ademola Atanda; Senior Lecturer Mr. Sola Ayoade; PRO Mr. Wale Adeoye; and legal officer Miss Ife Olatunde.
The LASU team included Dr. Adewale Mustapha, Assistant Director, DICT; Mr. Ademola Adekoya, Deputy Registrar and CGNS Secretary; and Mr. Sunday Fanu from LASU’s Legal Unit.
Both parties concluded with a mutual commitment to formalizing the collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be reviewed and finalized soon.
