The Vice Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Professor Edward Olanipekun, has announced the promotion of 70 academic staff members to the rank of Professors.
This significant development spans all departments and faculties within the institution.
Additionally, 60 staff members were promoted to the position of Readers, which is equivalent to Associate Professors.
Professor Olanipekun, whose tenure as Vice Chancellor is nearing its conclusion, revealed these updates during a press briefing on Thursday.
He highlighted that the university’s Governing Council has approved all the promotions.
He particularly noted the growth in the Faculty of Law, where the number of Professors has increased from two to seven, reflecting the administration’s commitment to academic excellence and capacity building.
New academic programmes in pharmacy
Furthermore, Professor Olanipekun disclosed that EKSU is in the process of launching new academic programmes, including a Doctor of Pharmacy program.
The university is currently awaiting the results of visitation panels from the National Universities Commission (NUC) and relevant professional regulatory agencies.
Should these reports be favorable, EKSU will begin admitting students into the Doctor of Pharmacy and Bachelor of Dental Surgery programmes.
Student matters
In a separate update, the Vice Chancellor shared that the university has responded to student requests by extending the upcoming examination date by one week. The exams, originally scheduled to begin on August 12, will now commence on August 19. This extension is intended to provide students with additional preparation time following unforeseen circumstances that affected the academic calendar.
Professor Olanipekun expressed satisfaction with the ongoing communication and collaboration between the university management and the new student union leaders, emphasizing that the decision was made in the best interests of the students’ academic success.
