In a significant cabinet reshuffle, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has dismissed five ministers and redeployed 10 others in a move aimed at realigning his administration’s priorities. The announcement, made on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, saw the removal of key ministers, including Professor Tahir Mamman, SAN, OON, the Minister of Education.
The reshuffle also affected Barrister Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Women Affairs), Lola Ade John (Tourism), Abdullahi Muhammed Gwarzo (State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Youth Development), who were dropped from the cabinet.
As part of the changes, several ministers have been reassigned to new portfolios. Dr. Yusuf Sanunu, formerly the Minister of State for Education, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, while Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, previously Minister of State for Health, now assumes the role of Minister of Education.
Other notable redeployments include Barrister Bello Muhammad Goronyo moving from the Ministry of State for Water Resources and Sanitation to the Ministry of State for Works, and Dr. Abubakar Mommoh shifting from the Ministry of Niger Delta Development to lead the newly created Ministry of Regional Development.
Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, previously Minister of State for Police Affairs, has been appointed the new Minister of Women Affairs, while Ayodele Olanwande has moved from Minister of State for Youth Development to head the Ministry of Youth Development. Senator John Ewa Enoh, who was Minister of Sports Development, now assumes the role of Minister of State for Steel Development.
This reshuffle is seen as part of President Tinubu’s efforts to optimize his government’s performance and address key national issues, particularly in sectors such as education, youth development, and poverty reduction.
