The University of Ibadan has shut its University Health Centre after a patient tested positive for COVID-19.
The institution’s Director of Public Communication, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, said the health centre had been decontaminated and shut down, adding that the move followed the recommendation of the Oyo State Emergency Operations Centre.
He said the closure would last for seven days but added that the reopening of the place would be subject to the review by the state Emegency Operation Centre (EOC).
According to Oladejo, the patient was first seen on December 10 and was admitted at the clinic on December 13.
He said, “Oyo State Emergency Operations Centre was notified immediately. The centre inspected the premises (Jaja Clinic), and made the following recommendations:
“Disinfection/decontamination of premises, which has been done; follow-up of all those who had contact with the patient by the EOC; and closure of the clinic from 4pm of 15 December, 2020 for seven-day period.
“Opening will be subject to review by the Oyo State Emegency Operation Centre (EOC).
“Beyond closure, the EOC is working with the UHS to ensure that all processes for safe work are put in place.”
