Anambra releases 2020/2021 school calendar

The 2020/2021 academic calendar for Nursery, Primary and Secondary in Anambra State has been released.

According to the calendar, the new session commences on 16th November.

This is contained in a release signed by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic Education, Nwabueze Nwankwo.

While first half of the first term would start from 16th November to end on 18th December for the Christmas break that would last until January 1, 2021, the second half of the first term will begin on 4th January, 2021 and end on 5th February, 2021.

“The first half of the second term is expected to begin on February 8, 2021 to end April 1, 2021 while there will be a vacation from April 2, 2021 to April 9, 2021. The second half of the second term will commence on April 12, 2021 to end on April 23, 2021. World Book Day will be marked on March 7, 2021 while placement examinations into secondary schools will hold on March 10, 2021. Principals and head teachers are to ensure 30 minutes uninterrupted sustained silent reading on ‘World Book Day’. The West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will take off by April 2021. The first half of third term will commence on April 26, 2021 to end on June 1, 2021 while the midterm break will commence on June 2, 2021 to end on June 4, 2021,” the release states.

Announcing further, release said “the second half of the third term will start on June 7, 2021 and end on July 23, 2021 while the ‘Workers Day’ will take place on May 1, 2021.

Nigeria’s Children’s Day commemoration will hold on May 27, 2021 while the WASSCE which started in April will end in May, 2021. National Examination Council (NECO) Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) starts in May, 2021 and will end on June, 2021 while National Democracy Day takes place on June 12, 2021 and World Day Against Child Labour on June 12, 2021. International Day of the African Child will hold on June 16, 2021 while vacation of schools will be from July 26, 2021 to September 10, 2021. All approved interventions in schools must be after school programmes to minimise interruptions of school activities,” the release continues.

Meanwhile, all public, private and mission schools in Anambra State are to remain on recess until further notice.

A release issued in Awka by Permanent Secretary Ministry of Basic Education, Linus Nwankwo gave notice to principals, head teachers, teachers, pupils, parents, education students and other stakeholders stating that the current recess of schools is hereby extended till further notice.

According to the release, an assessment of the situation will be done by Wednesday, October 28.
