Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has approved the appointment of Professor Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the new Vice-Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA).
The appointment follows the recommendation of the university’s Governing Council, chaired by Dr Tunji Abayomi, in line with the provisions of the institution’s governing laws and extant regulations.
According to the Council, Prof. Obamuyi emerged first among 15 candidates who were interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the position.
Professor Obamuyi, a scholar of Banking and Finance, will succeed the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
A statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, noted that the new Vice-Chancellor has held several academic and administrative positions within and outside Nigeria.
These include serving as Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA and as the pioneer Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
He was also awarded the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa” in 2015 by the Africa Education Leadership Awards held in Mauritius.
In addition, Prof. Obamuyi has contributed to higher education quality assurance as a member of accreditation teams of the National Universities Commission (NUC) and as chairperson and subject expert for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
His academic engagements have taken him to international conferences across Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States.
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed confidence that the new Vice-Chancellor would build on existing achievements at AAUA and further strengthen teaching, research, and community service.
He urged Prof. Obamuyi to uphold the institution’s core values while promoting peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff and students.
The Governor also reaffirmed the Ondo State Government’s commitment to supporting the university in maintaining its standing as one of Nigeria’s leading state-owned institutions.
