The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has advised candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria to check their JAMB profile regularly.

This advise came on the heels of a question posed by a twitter user to the JAMB official handle

“When are we to start checking our admission status?” the candidate asked.

JAMB responded saying “Candidates are advised to check their admission status on their profile from time to time.”

This means that candidates can log on to their JAMB profile to know when JAMB has offered them admission.

Schools’ admissions not sufficient for admission

It is true that some schools have already released their admission list for 2017/2018 academic session but just like JAMB announced earlier, all admissions must be approved by JAMB before they are valid.

This means that even if your school has offered you admission, you are to confirm your admission status on the JAMB portal before you can confidently say that you have been offered admission.

Introducing CAPS changes how admissions are offered and accepted

In previous years, a candidate can visit the JAMB Admission Status checking portal with his or her JAMB Registration Number to confirm whether he or she has been offered admission.

Now, with some of the changes JAMB has made, especially the introduction of the Central Admission Processing System (CAPS), confirming your admission status is no longer that simple.

According to the information made available by JAMB earlier concerning how the admission process will work, JAMB is expected to notify a candidate that a school has offered him or her an admission.

Such candidate is expected to either accept or reject such admission via the JAMB CAPS portal or via SMS.

Up till now, no candidates has been notified of any admission by JAMB not to talk of accepting or rejecting the admission despite the fact that some schools have already released their admission lists.

While we await JAMB’s next directive, candidates are advised to check their JAMB profiles from time to time for possible update on admission status.
