One of Nigeria’s oldest surviving privately owned secondary schools, Adeola Odutola College, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, is set to celebrate its 80th anniversary with a series of events scheduled for June 12 to 16, 2025.
Established in 1945 as Olu-Iwa College by the late Chief (Dr.) Timothy Adeola Odutola, the institution was later renamed in honour of its founder. Over the decades, the college has produced a long list of accomplished alumni, including former state administrators, ministers, commissioners, and professionals across various fields both in Nigeria and abroad.
The anniversary celebrations, which will coincide with the posthumous birthday of the founder on June 16, will be marked with a week-long lineup of events organized by the Adeola Odutola College Old Students Association (AOCOSA). The alumni body has formed several committees to oversee the successful planning and execution of the festivities.
The celebration kicks off on Thursday, June 12, with courtesy visits to eminent families in Ijebuland, including the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, and the Odutola family.
Friday, June 13, will feature a Jumat service and a quiz competition among students.
Saturday, June 14, has been designated as AOCOSA Day. Activities on this day include the official opening of the AOCOSA Hall and the commissioning of various projects completed by different alumni sets. The day will be rounded off with a gala night and awards ceremony to honour outstanding individuals and contributors to the school’s legacy.
Sunday, June 15, is set aside for set-specific activities and reunions among old students.
The grand finale will hold on Monday, June 16, with a Founder’s Day ceremony and church service on the school premises, followed by an anniversary lunch at the historic Onibudo House.
The National President of AOCOSA, Alhaji Rasak Adebiyi Olufowobi, and Chairman of the Media/Publicity Committee, Bro Bosun Oluwabusayomi, noted that the event is expected to attract a large turnout of alumni, including those based in the diaspora, many of whom have already indicated interest in attending the landmark celebration.
