81 bag First Class as ABU honours Dangote, Sunmonu

81 students of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, will on Saturday be awarded a First Class degree during the institution’s 2017/2018 convocation ceremonies.

They are among the 15,289 graduands in its 41st convocation ceremony.

10,803 out of them are for first degree and 4,486 for post graduate programmes comprising of 304 PhD, 12 Mphil, 3092 master’s programme and others.

Also, 15 best graduating students for the 2017/2018 across the faculties will receive different prizes during the ceremony by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibrahim Garba.

The ceremony is slated to hold at the Mamman Kontagora Square on ABU main campus, Samaru, Zaria.

A statement signed by the Registrar of the University, Abdullahi Kundila on Monday made available to EduCeleb.com also indicated that the University will be conferring honorary degrees on two personalities.

They are President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote and a former president of the Nigerian Labour Union (NLC), Comrade Hassan Sunmonu.

The statement added that the honorary degrees was as a result of their immense contributions to the economic development of Nigeria and humanity in general.

The convocation is expected to round off with commissioning of laudable projects geared towards alleviation of acute shortage of student hostels.

A major project penned for commissioning is a 10 block hostel, which consists of 360 rooms built at ABU Site II and donated to the University by Dangote.

President Muhammadu Buhari who is the Visitor to the University and the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission are expected to be at the ceremonies.
