The Governing Council of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has approved the promotion of 45 academic staff members to the professorial cadre, comprising 20 full professors and 25 associate professors.
The decision was ratified at the 78th regular meeting of the council held on April 1, 2026, according to a statement issued by the institution’s Acting Director of University Relations, Professor Saeedat Aliyu.
The promotions cut across multiple faculties, reflecting the university’s expanding academic strength and research capacity.
In the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, Professor Henry Olawale Sawyerr was elevated to full professor with specialisation in Environmental Health Toxicology and Risk Management.
The Faculty of Agriculture produced three new professors: Professor Olayinka Jelil Yusuf (Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology), Professor Kayode Ayantoye (Agricultural Development and Policy), and Professor Isaac Ade Afe (Agronomy).
Similarly, four academics were promoted to professorial rank in the Faculty of Arts: Professor Tajudeen Yusuf (Arabic Linguistics), Professor Saeedat Bolajoko Aliyu (Environment and Gender in African Studies), Professor Reuben Kehinde Akano (African Literature and Cultural Studies), and Professor Ayoola Oladunke Aransi (Yoruba Literature, Cultural and Gender Studies).
The Faculty of Engineering and Technology recorded the highest number, with six new professors, including Professor Sikiru Ottan Abdulrahman (Materials Development and Mining Operations), Professor Kabiru Mustapha (Sustainable Composite Materials), and Professor Fadeyibi Adeshina (Post-Harvest Technology and Food Engineering), among others.
In the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, Professor Shehu Usman Adam (Environmental Economics) and Professor Zekeri Abu (Entrepreneurial Marketing and International Business) were elevated.
The Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences also produced four professors: Professor Adeyinka Elizabeth Ajiboye and Professor Majekodunmi Rachael Adedayo (Food/Industrial Microbiology), Professor Lukman Bola Abdulrauf (Analytical and Environmental Chemistry), and Professor Jimoh Ajadi (Mineral Exploration/Geochemistry).
The council also approved the promotion of 25 academics to the rank of associate professor across faculties including Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Information and Communication Technology, Management and Social Sciences, and Pure and Applied Sciences.
Notable among them are Dr Wasiu Awoyale (Food Processing and Storage Technology), Dr Hakeem Olawale (Yoruba Literature and Cultural Studies), Dr Joshua Sule Mamman (Accounting Education), and Dr Jumoke Falilat Ajao (Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence).
Others include Dr Abdulsalam Olaniyi Sulaiman and Dr Akinbowale Nathaniel Babatunde, both specialising in Artificial Intelligence-related fields, as well as Dr Nurudeen Bello Ahmed (General Management) and Dr Ahmed Oluwatobi Adekunle (Energy and International Finance).
The promotions highlight KWASU’s continued investment in academic excellence, research development, and capacity building across disciplines.
