The National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) has released of the certificates of some students who enrolled in its Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme.

This development is coming amidst severe costs for thousands of the graduates who completed the programme since 2017.

Those who choose the NTI PGDE are usually graduates of disciplines other than education.

They do so to obtain the minimum educational qualification that would enable them able to apply for a teaching licence in Nigeria.

An official of the NTI confirmed to EduCeleb.com Tuesday afternoon that students who did the PGDE within the South-South geopolitical region in 2017 and 2018 can now collect their certificates.

These include those in Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo and Rivers states.

EduCeleb.com had in since 2018 reported about the delayed release of NTI PGDE results which was said to be connected to the bureaucracy surrounding the affiliation of the programme to six universities across Nigeria’s geopolitical zones.

Our most recent interview with an aide of the NTI Director-General, Professor Ahmed Iliyasu attributed the delay to the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As at the time of filing this report, not all certificates are ready.

NTI is affiliated with the University of Port Harcourt in the South-South where it is now confirmed that certificates from there are available.

NTI director of exams, Bashir Mamman told this education news website in a phone interview that the institute had now received the 2017 and 2018 PGDE certificates from the university.

He added that those from other affiliating universities will soon be released.

Processing the NTI PGDE certificates

He added that graduates of the programme would be required to pay N3000 through the online students’ portal of the NTI available at my.nti.edu.ng.

Also, no cash collection would be entertained.

After making payments, the graduate is to present the remita receipt at the NTI state offices where the certificates would be collected.

EduCeleb.com reports that this is first in the tranches of NTI PGDE certificates being released since 2017 when the NTI decentralised its affiliation with the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).

UDUS only handles the seven states of the North West while the University of Maiduguri is in charge of the North East.
