Yobe State University, Damaturu, has on Friday matriculated 2,532 students into various programmes for the 2020/2021 academic session.
In his address during the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor Yobe State University, Professor Mohammed Mala Daura charged the newly matriculated students to shun all sorts of social vices and face their studies so as to serve as good ambassadors of the University.
Professor Daura revealed that over 10,000 candidates applied for admission into Yobe State University Damaturu through UTME and DE but only 3,290 were admitted as the quota for the institution is just 3,343.
He further disclosed that a total of 2,532 students were matriculated in the University and the students admitted were cut across various Faculties and spread across the 17 Local Government Areas of Yobe State and other states in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor added that the University started with 980 students in 2006 has today recorded about 9,610 made up of 2,532 New and Returning undergraduate students and equally have a remarkable number of Pre-Degree, Diploma and Post Graduates Programmes.
He appreciated the efforts of parents, staff and the Yobe State Government for the continued support in running the affairs of the University.
On his part, the Registrar of the University, Dr Kalli Alkali Yusuf Gazali called on the newly matriculated students to abide by the rules and regulations of the University as well as exhibit good moral behaviour and discipline pointing out that the University teaches both character and learning.
The Registrar also advised the students to shun all forms of examination malpractice, stressing that any student found in the act will face the wrath of the disciplinary committee of the University.
Dignitaries that attended the oath-taking include; the Deputy Vice Chancellor Central Administration, Dr Bukar Jamri, Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Services, Dr Mohammed Musa Lawan, Bursar, Bukar Aji Bukar, Librarian, Haj. Hafsat K. Ali, Chief Security Officer, Provost, Deans and Directors as well as the Deputy Registrar Information, Hajiya Uwani Zainab Mamuda, among others.
Meanwhile, Barrister Abubakar BaShehu conducted the oath of allegiance to the matriculating students.
