In a bid to produce industry-ready graduates and boost the nation’s economic development, Dr. Ibrahim Abdul, Rector of Yaba College of Technology (YabaTech), emphasized the importance of strong collaborations between industries and academic institutions.

This statement was made during the inaugural graduation ceremony of the “Telecom Access Foundation Programme” held at Skillfort Training Hub in Lagos on Friday.

The training, organized by Omnicom Solutions in partnership with YabaTech and Summit University, Offa, saw 29 students graduating with certifications in various IT skills including RF & Microwave technology, fiber optics solutions, network optimization, renewable energy solutions, and quality environmental health and safety.

The programme was sponsored by Omnicom Solutions and Endow Africa.

Dr. Abdul highlighted YabaTech’s initiative to integrate more closely with industry to ensure their graduates are well-prepared for the job market. “The gown is going to the town to ensure that we have the necessary alliance that ensures our graduates fit for the industry,” he stated.

He also mentioned the college’s broader goal of producing graduates equipped for industries both within and beyond Nigeria, citing an example of YabaTech students currently in China gaining practical skills in the automotive sector for an 18-month period.
