Moddibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola has joined the list of Nigerian universities offering medicine.
This is following the accreditation of the course by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
MAUTECH Registrar, Halima Bala, confirmed the development on Tuesday in Yola.
The NUC approval means that the university would be able to offer medical degrees with effect from the 2020/2021 Academic Session.
EduCeleb.com understands that the institution is one of Nigeria’s designated specialised technological universities.
A law amendment has been passed by the National Assembly to ensure that it could run as a conventional university.
What remains is a presidential assent to the bill.
A letter from NUC signed by Director, Academic Planning, Dr N.B Saliu, stated that the approval was in respect of the request made by MAUTECH in January.
It was titled: “Request for Approval Letter for the Establishment of Medical Sciences and Reinstatement of Delisted Courses”.
“I am directed to inform the Vice-Chancellor that the Executive Secretary has considered and approved the establishment of a full time mode of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS), undergraduate programme, to be run in the Main Campus of the university with effect from the 2020/2021 academic session.
“I am to add that the approval does not cover the part-time mode of delivery of the Programme. This programme shall bear only the approved title and nomenclature, and any change requires the approval of the commission.
“The university is enjoined to provide adequate human and material resources required for the development and growth of the approved programme.
“Furthermore, MAUTECH is requested to stay action on reinstating the de-listed programmes, pending the conclusion of the process for conversion of the university to a conventional one,” the NUC letter read in part. For information on Press Releases, Photos, Promotional Events and Adverts, Please Call or Send a Text to 09052129258, 08124662170 or send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
