WAEC releases 2026 First Series CB-WASSCE results for Private Candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Nigeria, has announced the release of results for the 2026 First Series of the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for private candidates.

In a statement issued on Friday, the council said the examination was conducted between 28 January and 14 February 2026 across Nigeria.

The coordination of examiners and marking of scripts took place at three venues in Lagos, Enugu and Kaduna between 26 February and 13 March 2026, with a total of 608 examiners participating in the exercise.

According to WAEC, 10,523 candidates registered for the examination, representing an 11.49 per cent increase compared to the 9,438 candidates recorded in 2025. Of this number, 10,480 candidates sat the examination at 166 centres nationwide.

The council disclosed that 43 candidates with special needs participated in the examination, including 11 visually impaired candidates, four with hearing impairments and four albinos. It noted that adequate provisions were made to accommodate them.

Of the candidates who sat the examination, 5,106 were male, representing 48.72 per cent, while 5,374 were female, accounting for 51.28 per cent.

WAEC stated that 8,418 candidates, representing 80.32 per cent, have had their results fully processed and released. However, 2,062 candidates (19.68 per cent) still have some of their subjects being processed due to errors attributable to them. The council assured that efforts were underway to complete the processing promptly.

An analysis of candidates’ performance showed that 4,598 candidates (43.87 per cent) obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics.

Additionally, 3,429 candidates, representing 32.72 per cent, obtained credits and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics. Of this figure, 1,847 (53.86 per cent) were male, while 1,582 (46.14 per cent) were female.

WAEC noted that this represents an improvement compared to previous years, with 30.95 per cent and 26.96 per cent recorded in 2024 and 2025 respectively for candidates achieving five credits including English Language and Mathematics.

Meanwhile, the results of 75 candidates, representing 0.72 per cent, have been withheld in connection with allegations of examination malpractice. The council stated that investigations are ongoing and that decisions will be communicated to the affected candidates in due course.

Candidates have been advised to check their results via the WAEC results portal and proceed to access their digital certificates online. They may also apply for printed certificates through the WAEC Certificate Request Portal.

The council congratulated successful candidates and expressed appreciation to government agencies, security personnel, education authorities, and examination officials for their contributions to the successful conduct of the examination.
