The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially denied reports claiming that the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates has been cancelled.

In a statement released on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and signed by Moyosola Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, WAEC described the cancellation rumour as false and misleading. The Council clarified that the information being circulated on various social media platforms, which alleges that the Federal Ministry of Education and WAEC jointly cancelled the examination due to widespread malpractice and digital leaks, did not originate from any official channel.

“The press statement being circulated is entirely fictitious and was not issued by WAEC,” the statement read. “We are aware that certain individuals with malicious intent are behind this falsehood, aiming to discredit the Council and create unnecessary panic among students and parents.”

WAEC further noted that the marking of examination scripts has just been completed, and that the results of the 2025 WASSCE will be released on or before Monday, August 4, 2025.

The Council reiterated that all verified information from WAEC is disseminated only through its official social media pages and accredited media outlets. It also warned the public to be cautious of unverified content circulating online.

“All official press releases from the Council are issued by the Public Affairs Department and duly signed on behalf of the Head of National Office,” the Council added.

WAEC urged candidates, schools, and other stakeholders to disregard the fake publication and remain confident in the integrity and transparency of its examination process.
