UNILAG, German varsity win €16000 research grant

The University of Lagos in collaboration with the University of Cologne, Germany has won a research grant of Sixteen Thousand Euro (€16,000) under the DAAD COVID-19 Idea Challenge 2021.

The collaboration is under the DIES Nigeria Project: Nigeria Innovative Research Management Structures (NIReMaS).

The Sixteen Thousand Euro (€16,000) research grant is for a project titled “Profiling Some Nigerian Herbs for COVID-19 Prevention and Management.”

The project was open to only Early Career Researchers (ECR) in the universities under the DIES Nigeria Project through which the University of Lagos, University of Ibadan and Afe Babalola University have one project sponsored each.

Dr. Oluwafemi Amusa of the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics who is an academic and researcher with the TETFund Centre of Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management (TCEBCEM) is the Principal Investigator on the grant.

The Vice-Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe commended the efforts of the team that worked to win the grant, he wished them success in their research project.

FG approves N182 million for rehabilitation of UNILAG internal roads

In another development, the Federal Government has awarded a contract for the rehabilitation of internal roads at the University of Lagos. The decision was reached at a meeting of the Ministerial Tenders Board meeting held earlier in the year.

The contract was awarded to Messrs Lion Unisco Ltd, in a letter dated 23rd September 2021, at the sum of N182, 265, 941.18 (One hundred and eighty-two million, two hundred and sixty-five thousand, nine hundred and forty-one naira, eighteen kobo).

It has a completion period of twelve (12) weeks and will run from Thursday, September 30, 2021 to Tuesday, December 14, 2021.
