Context
The Nigerian government, in May, directed outgoing vice-chancellors to nominate one of their deputies as acting vice-chancellor until the governing councils appoint substantive vice-chancellors.
This directive followed protests and industrial unrest led by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) regarding the appointment processes.
Recently, the federal government appointed and inaugurated new members for the governing councils of universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
These newly inaugurated councils will soon begin the process of appointing substantive vice-chancellors at institutions where the incumbent’s tenure has ended.
These strategic appointments are expected to bring stability and ensure the smooth functioning of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto.
