Two teachers suspended, to clean toilet for fighting

The Delta State Government has suspended two teachers at Ibru College, Agbarha-Otor, in Ughelli North Local Government Area, after they were found guilty of fighting within the school premises.

The teachers, identified as Mr. Agofure R. and Mr. Etuh G., were sanctioned following a disciplinary review by the school’s management. As part of their punishment, they have been ordered to clean the staff toilets for one month.

In addition, the state government has recommended their transfer to other public schools to restore discipline within the institution.

Further Disciplinary Actions

Apart from the school-level punishment, the teachers have also been directed to report to the Ughelli Zonal Office of the Delta State Post-Primary Education Board for further interrogation regarding the incident. Pending the final decision by the board, they remain suspended from duty.

Additionally, Mr. Etuh G. has been ordered to vacate his official quarters within the school compound within a month.

Reactions to the Incident

Confirming the disciplinary measures, the Principal of Ibru College, Mr. Akporube L.O., reiterated the school’s zero-tolerance policy for misconduct among staff. He emphasized that the teaching profession demands a high level of discipline and professionalism, and any behavior that violates these standards will not be tolerated.

Speaking on the issue, Dr. Precious Omoruwou, a Senior Lecturer at Southern Delta University, condemned the teachers’ actions, attributing such misconduct to flaws in the recruitment process of educators. She stressed the need for continuous training and retraining of teachers, highlighting their critical role as role models for students and society at large.

The incident, which sparked outrage among parents and educators, serves as a stern warning to teachers in Delta State, reinforcing the importance of ethical conduct and professionalism in the education sector.
