Tragedy struck in Lokoja on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, as a final-year student of Kogi State Polytechnic, Omotosho Dorcas, aged 26, lost her life during a medical procedure at Al-Hassan Clinic and Maternity in the Sarkin Noma area.
Reports indicate that the deceased, who was six months pregnant, had visited the clinic for an abortion. According to sources, she suffered fatal complications during the procedure and bled to death.
Following the incident, police detectives arrived at the clinic to conduct an initial investigation. They documented the scene and moved the remains to the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, for safekeeping.
Authorities have confirmed that the medical practitioner suspected of performing the procedure has been taken into custody. The case is set to be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough and comprehensive investigation.
