President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially approved the takeover and conversion of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital (DASH) in Lafia, Nasarawa State, into the Federal University of Lafia Teaching Hospital.
This move, as confirmed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, is aimed at enhancing the training of medical and allied sciences students and boosting healthcare delivery in the state.
The decision, which follows a request from the Nasarawa State government, underscores Tinubu’s commitment to improving Nigeria’s healthcare infrastructure.
“The conversion of the health facility to a federal teaching hospital will not only enhance the training of students in medical and allied sciences but also boost healthcare delivery in the state,” the statement read.
This development comes after the Nasarawa State House of Assembly approved the ceding of DASH to the Federal Government in 2022, a decision that was influenced by the ongoing efforts of the state government and stakeholders to establish a federal teaching hospital in Lafia.
The Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Abdullahi, highlighted the significance of this conversion during a session, noting that it aligns with the state’s broader objectives for healthcare improvement.
President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to ensuring the social welfare and healthcare security of Nigerians, promising continued investments in the sector to sustain these efforts.
