The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has impeached its branch chairman and two other executive officers, the treasurer, and the secretary.
EduCeleb.com exclusively learnt that the decision to sack the three was reached at a Congress held at the institution on Tuesday evening. The members of SSANU UNILAG unanimously resolved that the three officers were not suitable to lead the union. They recommended that the trio who had been on suspension since 23rd August should be impeached.
A panel set up to investigate their activities back then had submitted its report before the Congress. The report found the officers guilty of constitutional breaches, diversion of funds, dubious character, among other things.
Confirming the development, a former chairman of SSANU UNILAG, Prince Oriwaye Joseph Adefolalu told EduCeleb.com that SSANU was not known for condoning corrupt acts. He described the allegations to which the officers were impeached over as damning.
“They are people of very lean integrity. Their characters are very much questionable. We don’t want such in our union,” he said.
