The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has appointed a former Accountant General and Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Finance, Sir David Sunmoni to chair the Lagos State University (LASU) governing council.

He replaces Professor Ninalowo who was only reappointed about seven months ago for a four year term.

The decision to earlier sack the Ninalowo-led governing council was connected to complications surrounding the appointment of a new LASU vice-chancellor.

However, the decision did not affect other members of the council who have now been returned to serve under Sunmoni.

Meanwhile, the secretary to the council and LASU registrar, Mr Mohammed Amuni would continue to recuse himself from office till a substantive vice-chancellor was appointed.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Mr Tokunbo Wahab said the Governor of Lagos State who is also Visitor to LASU appointed the 13 member council based on the consideration of the report of the Special Visitation Panel on the appointment of the 9th Vice-Chancellor which recommended the dissolution of the previous Governing Council of the University and by the powers conferred on the governor by the Lagos State University Law, Cap L69 volume 7, Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (as amended).
