The Vice-Chancellor of Ebonyi State University, Professor Chigozie Ogbu, has appealed to the lecturers of the university to return to the classrooms in the interest of the university and the students they teach.

In an interactive meeting with some concerned professors of the university today, the VC stated that management has paid one month salary and is currently making efforts to pay a second month within this week, stressing that the none payment of salaries has been a major source of worry to him.

He said, “the only way we can move forward is to return to classes and get students to pay their fees in order to augment the subvention, maintaining that the Governor has categorically said he has reached his limit of N150m subvention to EBSU.

So, there is very little that management can at the moment, if lecturers do not return to classes.

“If we don’t resume lectures, then we may be shooting ourselves on the leg”.

He further stated that the issue of EBSU still remaining with the National strike does not make sense at the moment, adding that people should look at the peculiarity of Ebonyi state and EBSU in particular and reconsider their stand on the National strike.
