Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has reiterated his administration’s dedication to education policies that align with societal needs, equipping students with practical skills to tackle real-world challenges.
The governor made this known over the weekend while hosting a delegation from South Korea, led by the Deputy Country Director of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), Mr Baik Ki-Hyyn, who visited the state for an in-depth survey of the Smart School Project.
Ekiti’s Investment in Smart Technology
In a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Yinka Oyebode, Special Adviser on Media to the Governor, Oyebanji emphasized that his administration is strategically investing in smart technology to enhance students’ critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving abilities.
The governor underscored that education remains Ekiti’s primary industry, adding that the state’s investment in education goes beyond literacy and numeracy to human capital development, making Ekiti’s workforce globally competitive.
“Education is our main industry, and as one of the most educated states in the country, we have a duty to maintain that status. Our education strategy and policies must not only address literacy and numeracy but also respond to the needs of society,” Oyebanji stated.
He expressed appreciation to the South Korean Government for its partnership in the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) Smart School Project, which has positioned Ekiti as a leader in technology-driven education at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
KOICA’s Endorsement and Future Plans
In his remarks, Mr Baik Ki-Hyyn commended Governor Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to advancing education through innovative policies. He described Ekiti as exceptional among the six Nigerian states selected for the Smart School Project, launched in 2021.
He also assured that the South Korean Government is willing to embark on a second phase of intervention under UBEC, aimed at strengthening existing smart schools and expanding access in underserved and rural areas.
