Ogun begins recruitment of secondary school teachers

The Ogun State government has begun a recruitment exercise for prospective teachers in secondary schools across the state.

This is coming weeks after a similar exercise was successfully conducted at primary schools through the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).

This fresh recruitment process is spearheaded by the Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM).

A statement made available to EduCeleb.com by the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Basic, Secondary and Technical Education, Mrs Ronke Soyombo said applications are welcomed from “suitably qualified candidates” for the post of Teachers in Public Secondary Schools in the Four (4) Divisions of the State.

Teachers are needed in academic disciplines including; English Language, Mathematics, Agricultural Science, Home Economics and Physical Health Education.

Other subjects are Creative Arts, Yoruba, Christian Religious Studies, Islamic Religious Studies, Computer Science, Civic Education, Economics,
Commerce, Financial Accounting, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and
Literature-in-English.

The other subject teachers needed are specialists in Geography, Further Mathematics, Government, Social Studies, Business Studies, Basic Science, Basic Technology, History, and French.

Basic requirements

Applicants interested in the teacher recruitment are expected to hold certain basic requirements.

They include at least a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed/B.Sc Ed/B.A Ed) in Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, Home Economics and other courses relevant to the above listed subjects.

Also acceptable are candidates with Nigeria Certificate Examination (NCE) and First Degree Certificate.

On the alternative, candidates with Bachelor’s degree in other fields in addition to a Post Graduate Diploma (PGDE).

Candidates with a Higher National Diploma (HND) particularly in STEM related subjects and Technical Teachers Certificate (TTC) or a PGDE are also accepted.

Application procedures

“Be kindly informed that only candidates who apply for the job on the Job Portal and also fill the form will be considered,” the statement noted.

Application for the TESCOM job cannot be done without a Labour Identification Number which can only be generated by registering and applying for the job on the portal.

“Applicants are advised to read the instructions carefully as failure to fulfill the requirements would lead to disqualification.”

In the event that an applicant already has an existing account on the portal, they should log in and apply while those that are yet to, are advised to register (create an account) before applying.

In addition to the above, prospective candidates are expected to possess a First School Leaving Certificate, Senior Secondary School Certificate with a minimum of 5 credits including English and Mathematics, First Degree Certificate, NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, Certificate of birth issued by a recognized agency, Valid means of identification, and Evidence of change of name where applicable.
