The Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC) has elected Professor Muhammad Yahuza Bello as its new chairman.
Bello, the current Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University Kano (BUK) was elected on 28th May, 2019, according a statement by the group on Friday.
The new chairman would be serving in the capacity as also the representative of the Association of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU), which encompases federal, state and private universities.
Born in 1959, at Kawo Quarters of Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Bello began his elementary education in 1967 at Giginyu Primary School, Kano.
On successful completion in 1973, he gained admission at Government Secondary School, Gaya and did the General Certificate Examination (GCE) in 1977.
He was admitted into BUK the same year to study Education Mathematics for his bachelor’s degree.
Bello graduated in 1981 and in 1982, he was retained as Graduate Assistant. He later proceeded to the University of Arkansas, USA from 1985 to 1988 where he obtained a PhD in Mathematics.
The new CVC chair’s scholarship and research transcends Mathematics and Computer Science over the years.
EduCeleb.com gathered that he has supervised and graduated five PhD Mathematics candidates and 32 MSc Mathematics and MSc Computer Science candidates. He is currently supervising one (1) PhD Mathematics candidate and five (5) MSc Computer Science candidates.
Prior to his current position, he had held several other administrative roles in his university including serving as a two-term VC under the current Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Abubakar Rasheed.
He is a member of several professional bodies including the Nigerian Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of Nigeria, the Nigerian Institute of Mathematical Physics and the Africa Mathematics Forum.
