UI, LASU lead Nigerian universities on 2021 global ranking

The University of Ibadan (UI) ranked best among the six Nigerian universities that made the global ranking released by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Ranking for 2021.

This ranking included over 1500 universities and tertiary institutions worldwide.

While the UI ranked in the 401-500 bracket, the Lagos State University (LASU) which is second among Nigerian universities on the list ranked in the 501-600 bracket.

Other Nigerian universities, ranked are University of Lagos (601-800), Covenant University (801-1000), the University of Nigeria Nsukka (1000+) and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (1001+).

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021 includes universities across 93 countries and regions, making it the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.

Among the six, LASU is making its debut on the global ranking.

The institution said the ranking of LASU follows a consistent and meteoric rise in the local and international stock of the university under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Olanrewaju Fagbohun.

The University was named Africa Centre of Excellence in STEM Education by the World Bank in 2017, and maintains its status as the most sought after state university in Nigeria.
