Nigerian scholar appointed President of African Institute in Rwanda

The African Institute of Management, Technology, and Development Studies (AIMTDS) in Kigali has named Nigerian professor Austin Nosike as its new President. The appointment was confirmed by the institute’s Governing Council following a unanimous decision during its recent meeting.

A Legacy of Academic Leadership

Prof. Nosike, a distinguished scholar in Public Finance and Business Policy, brings over 30 years of higher education experience to the role. His career spans leadership positions across Africa and Europe, including serving as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at institutions in Burundi, Zambia, and Uganda. Most recently, he was Dean of Postgraduate Studies at the University of Kigali and a Visiting Professor at Kigali Independent University.

In his new capacity, Prof. Nosike will oversee academic growth, research administration, and resource mobilization for AIMTDS. He will also serve as a member of the Governing Council.

Global Recognition and Achievements

The Nigerian academic has an extensive portfolio, including:

  • International Consultancy: Advising governments and organizations on education, development, and policy.
  • Research Excellence: Over 150 publications and editorial roles in prominent journals.
  • Awards & Honors: Recipient of global accolades, including the International Youth of the Year Award and research grants from institutions like the Central European University.

Prof. Nosike’s career began in journalism and human rights activism before transitioning into academia. His multidisciplinary expertise covers globalization, environmental management, and corporate governance.

Recent Contributions

In 2024, Prof. Nosike was invited by Namibia’s National Council of Higher Education to chair a university audit panel, reinforcing his reputation for institutional reform. He has also supervised numerous postgraduate students and founded academic associations, including the African Association of Journal Editors.

A polyglot fluent in English and Spanish, Prof. Nosike holds multiple advanced degrees, including a PhD in Economics and a Doctor of Business Administration. He earned his early qualifications in Nigeria before pursuing studies in Poland, the UK, Hungary, and Spain.

The appointment signals AIMTDS’s commitment to strengthening Africa’s academic and research landscape. Prof. Nosike’s leadership is expected to drive innovation and partnerships across the continent.
