Tragedy struck on Wednesday, 6th August 2025, when Marvelous Olanrewaju Babalola, a 300-level Mechanical Engineering student at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), was fatally shot during an unauthorized sign-out ceremony at the Ultramodern Wazo Market in Ogbomoso.
University Confirms Incident, Reveals Violation of Ban
In a statement issued by Registrar Olayinka Balogun, LAUTECH management expressed deep sorrow over the incident, disclosing that the university had prohibited sign-out ceremonies since 2023 due to safety concerns. Despite warnings to local hotels and repeated advisories, a group of students organized the event at the market’s football pitch.
