The management of Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a formal notice cautioning against the unauthorised use of its campuses and facilities for content creation activities, following concerns over the increasing production of offensive and inappropriate materials by some individuals, particularly students.

In a press statement released on Friday, 12 December 2025, the University expressed worry that certain content created within its premises misrepresents the institution’s values and could cause reputational damage, thereby undermining LASU’s standing as a respected centre of learning and character development.

The statement was signed by Mrs Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations, Lagos State University.

While reiterating its support for creativity and responsible self-expression, the University noted that such activities must align with institutional values and established guidelines. Consequently, LASU directed that all individuals—including students, staff and members of the general public—who intend to engage in cinematographic or audiovisual activities on any of its campuses must obtain prior approval from the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR).

According to the statement, the directive covers the recording or shooting of videos such as skits, vox pops, short films, promotional content and other forms of audiovisual materials within University premises, hostels and related facilities. Approval is to be sought from the CIPR office located on the 3rd Floor of the Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

The University further warned that the use of drones within the campus environment without formal authorisation from the Security Department is strictly prohibited. This measure, LASU explained, is aimed at safeguarding the safety, privacy and security of members of the University community.

The management appealed for the cooperation of all stakeholders in complying with the directive, stressing that the policy is part of its broader commitment to preserving the sanctity, dignity and reputation of Lagos State University.
